Dental Implants Q & A
What are dental implants?
Dental implants are devices used to address areas of tooth loss. They are made for a precise fit and are available in several different designs. The most common types of dental implants are fitted with a titanium screw anchored into the jawbone. This screw serves as a post for a custom-made to attach. Once the crown is in place, it will match your natural teeth in shade and size. Some advantages of dental implants include improved appearance, speech, comfort, and oral health.
What is a single tooth replacement?
Dental implants can be used to replace a single tooth just as well as multiple teeth. There are new procedures that can be performed to place the bone just below the gum tissue. A temporary crown can be used to fill the missing space and a temporary abutment can also be placed on the implant until it’s fully healed. The abutment will then be attached to the implant. It’s used to hold the custom-made crowns that have been molded and shaped to match the size and shape of your existing teeth. In the final step, the custom crown is permanently placed onto the abutment with dental cement.
What is multiple tooth replacement?
Multiple tooth replacement will cut down on grinding of the adjacent teeth to serve as posts for traditional implants. The implants are placed below the gum tissue into the bone. Similar to a single tooth replacement, the temporary abutments will be placed on the implants until they are fully healed. Once this is complete, the abutments are attached to the implants and will hold a bridge that has been custom made to match to your existing teeth. In the final step, the custom bridge is cemented onto the abutments. Teeth are replaced without disturbing the healthy, adjacent teeth, and minimizing bone loss.
